About The Fellowship

  • Applications are open to any high school student in Chicago with curiosity and an interest in how coding, data science and AI might fit into their future. Whether that’s pursuing a career in STEM, determining your college major, or just exploring your passion for tech, the only requirement is your dedication.

During each session, we offer simultaneous courses at two different levels: one for students with no or limited coding experience, and one for students who have prior knowledge of Python for data analysis or who have already completed the first level. To learn more, see here.

The Ada Fellowship is particularly excited about bringing this opportunity to groups that have been historically underrepresented in STEM. We’re excited to offer full scholarships to a limited number of students based on financial need. The Fellowship is committed to supporting and mentoring students of all races, genders, sexualities, religions and socio-economic backgrounds in a safe environment. Please feel free to reach out with any concerns or questions.

  • At the moment, only high school students can participate in the Ada Fellowship. We plan to offer programs geared for college students and other adults starting in 2024. If you are interested in participating, please sign up for updates on the bottom of the home page.

  • The Ada Fellowship is an 8-week hybrid project-based program. Each session will have a maximum of 15 participants, guaranteeing individual attention from mentors while also creating a diverse community of learners.

Fellows will participate in weekly weeknight workshops over Zoom and have the opportunity to work in-person with mentors and other fellows during co-working sessions on weekends. Mentors will also be available to assist fellows in between meetings via online platforms.

For a detailed breakdown of the schedule, see here.

  • Fellows will get hands-on experience learning industry-standard tools and methods such as:

    • Coding in Python

    • Data analysis and visualization

    • Building and deploying AI and machine learning tools

    • Statistics

    • Technical communication

  • You will need a laptop capable of running Zoom and Slack, and online access to Google Colab. You need to be able to participate in the weekly online workshops and attend the weekly in-person co-working sessions.

We are able to provide a limited number of loaner laptops to fellows who do not have access to one.

If these requirements are an issue, please reach out to inquire about potential accommodations.

  • Kyle and Mariela are tech industry veterans with experience as data scientists at some of the biggest companies in the world. Learn more about their backgrounds here.

  • The 8-week course costs $1,300. This includes weekly interactive workshops, weekly in-person co-working sessions, access to a Slack group for collaborating with other fellows and for continuous guidance from mentors.
